Seventeen educators from across disciplines, grade levels and buildings came together for a learning experience at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. The exhibition at the ICA featured Mark Dion whose collections and cabinets of curated objects lead to interesting conversation among the teachers. After the galleries, everyone headed into the Art Lab for some experimenting and art making. Here is what teachers had to say about the experience: I enjoyed participating in a PD session that wasn't an obvious link to my curriculum because it forced me to think more creatively about how to incorporate outside resources into my instruction. I also enjoyed spending time with colleagues that I don't normally have the opportunity to say more to than "hello." HMS did activities related to the book "World without water" while we had our professional day. I talked to each class about going to see the exhibit done with found objects/trash, and displayed in beautiful cabinetry.

Educators from across disciplines came together to learn, build, and play at the STEAM Lab at Lesley University. Here are some things educators had to say about the day: "Hands on experience was very valuable - to try out different challenges and to "be" the student" "The way that the instructors gave us organized materials and how they helped when we needed instruction but for the most part allowed us to work. Experience with materials and projects that could be easily used in our classrooms" |
