What a day at the MFA! It is always rewarding, stimulating, and for filling to spend an entire day with the art department. We were guided by the head of school programs and we wandered through the galleries pausing to discuss different ways in which we viewed the work. Our wonderful guide, Emily, engaged us in many different and thoughtful ways in which to talk about art through different lenses with our students. But what fun it was to listen to each other as we explored the art ourselves. Using art elements and principles cards, sketching, poems, VTS, & group brainstorming, we were able to connect with each other and think about our classrooms and students in new and exciting ways. The discussion around how we teach and why we teach this way was rich and lead to a reexamination of my own teaching. Thank you colleagues and MFA! I left energized and excited to try some new things with my students.
