Art Engagement during COVID-19
Here you will find some suggested art activities and resources that will be helpful in keeping your mind engaged and skills fresh during this school closure. Each week, I will send you additional art engagement resources, so be looking for my weekly communication. While I am not able to provide instruction during school closure, I am accessible by e-mail throughout the week to touch base and answer general questions. I miss seeing you and working in our studio! Can't wait to get back there and work with clay again!
Can you guess who is teaching in this video? Someone who misses you very much! Click on the throwing demos on the left menu to see more old videos in our classroom.

Week 2:
Hello Potters!! Check out this potter... One of my favorites. I met him in Belfast, Northern Ireland while I was studying abroad. Belfast has an AMAZING art college with an unbelievable pottery studio and professors. I learned so much there. I remember the first time I walked into the studio and was speechless. Imagine a space 5 times our classroom with a separate room for recycling and pugging clay. MANY different clay bodies and many pugmills. AND a separate room for mixing glazes. Students were encouraged to try new glaze recipes on there own. In addition to the professors, there were 2 studio technicians who managed the kiln rooms. Adam's work was incredible even as a undergrad. Take a look at his website And Instagram Read this ARTicle about other potters Write about your favorite work/artist listed in the article. What do you like? What questions do you have? What do you want to try in the studio? Include a picture of what you are responding to. It is important to you this time to contemplate what we REALLY want to make in the studio. Looking at inspiration and responding to other's work is an essential part of being an artist. |

WEEK 3:
THE GREAT POTTERY THROW DOWN (see the pottery pun there?)
Season 3 episode 3: RAKU challenge
Hello Potters!
I had never heard of this British show until last week as I was searching around and previewing MANY wonderful pottery demo videos. But now that I have seen it, I would love to be a contestant! Who knew there was a reality series dedicated to pottery?!?! Dream come true.
Here is an episode that I love because it is about an alternative firing process called Raku. And I do this at school once a year with the advanced classes. If you would like to do this in the spring, let me know!
Watch this video and answer the following questions.
