Now that we are well into the nesting bowls project, you can see how much growth has taken place in the last two months. These potters are throwing bigger and better than before. You can see the long hours and days of practice pay off because they are creating beautiful and original work.
Mugs Fall 2017
Wheel throwing is an extremely difficult skill to learn and takes hours of practice to make a piece. Furthermore, the act of throwing an object is only one step in a line of processes needed to accomplish the project. There is a balancing act that consists of tooling your foot, possibly pulling and attaching handles or spouts, carving texture, throwing a lid, and, of course, decorating and glazing. To be a successful potter, you need to be able to juggle many things for one project to come together and these students work for 8 weeks to make their first set of 4 mugs. Here are the results...
